Default New Shortblock

I currently have 520 miles on my shortblock (67000 on the head) and clutch. The SC was fitted with the new shortblock and I have not run the car under boost yet because the engine is new. This has been possible thanks to my boost gauge. After the 600 mile break in is it ok to boost the car? Should I wait until I have passed a few thousand miles? I just do not know if there are any general rules of thumb or what the experts on here would recommend. The engine feels great so far and have not passed 5k rpm (it is much harder to not boost the car than vtec because you have to use only partial throttle all the time and you have to constantly watch the boost gauge).

Thank you for your help.

Anthony i'm not sure who assembled your short block but you should check with your engine builder.

MAke sure the car is tuned

Gradually start to "beat" on the car go through 30% of the rom rnage full thorttle then 60 then 90 till your good to go but you always want to see what your engine builder says and make sure you have a safe tune.

I have just about 600 miles on the car. My engine builder said that it should be fine once properly broken in. The car has the Vortech black box and I have a A/F gauge so I can continually monitor what is going on and if I am too lean or not. I was more asking if a new engine, properly broken in with 600-1000 miles is safe to start seeing some boost. I am not going to beat the hell out of it but a few runs past 5k under moderate acceleration would be nice. Anything over 1/3 throttle and I immediately jump to 0.0psi and can't accelerate anymore. I just want to drive the car normally. Just wondering what some of the experts on here think.

Thanks,

Anthony

curiouisly, did your engine builder go thru the process of seating the rings? or did he just say go easy on it for a few hundred miles. also, what type of oil are you using for breakin? plain jane regular oil is best.

Yes, he properly seated the rings before he gave me the car. He gave it to me with 40 miles on it. I was told to use regular oil and currently am using penzoil 10w30. The engine is being broken in properly (no vtec or boost, normal driivng). I was just curious if things are more sensative because the engine is new and that I should wait longer before I start driving it more agressively and using moderate boost. Does the engine have anything else to "do" after the 600 mile mark? Does anyone see any reason why I coudln't drive it normally and start gradually accelerating harder?

Thank you for your help.

welp, i know that if you use total seal rings, there directions are really funny. i think it reccomends like 1000 miles of light to moderate driving to break them in, OR, one night of racing. i would think you can start goin harder and harder on it, since you have alreayd put a decent amount of mileage on it. what is your setup?

Yeah, I want to just start accelerating a little harder and seeing some boost, not going crazy or near redline. All I have is a new shortblock, Vortech with a brand new rebuilt blower, and Amuse exhaust. Oh, boost, oil pressure and AEM a/f gauge.

640 miles on the engine. Feels good and my new clutch feels broken in too. Yeah, I won't go much above 6-7K rpm for a while but I would like to see some moderate boost (few psi here and there). It is winter time and I just put my snow tires on so there is no aggressive driving anyway.
