Default New Vortech control box installed...

So I hooked up the latest version of the Vortech timing control box today and did some testing. It seems to be running fine, no check engine light. Very smooth and robust power when the cams switch, like it has at least a 3.2L NSX motor in there.

I've noticed though that near redline it makes some crackling(metallic popcorn) noise that sounds a little like detonation, but you can only hear it if the exhaust echoes off of something. In my WRX, detonation noise would come up from the footwell area, not the muffler, and there was no mistaking what it was.

Is there any way to tell if the Vortech box is really doing it's job, pulling timing as the boost goes up? Would it be obvious if it wasn't working?
I'm getting another dyno to check the AFR next week.

Can't remember if you've mentioned this before but do you have other mods on the car? VAFC? Exhaust? Intake gasket? TB? Gears? etc.

I have a Mugen exhaust and an ACT clutch.
The clutch is holding up well, but I've been getting the second
gear grind at redline. Happened at least four times today
because with the SC you have to shift faster on the 1-2
since the revs climb *much* faster, but the transmission just isn't
up to it. It's kind of disappointing that Honda still hasn't fixed this in the 02 cars,
or there isn't at least an aftermarket mod to take care of it.

Have you seen the Modifry shift warning device? This might help some. Also have you tried putting new tranny fluid in?

Take the dip stick out. Clean the green O rings on the dip stick and put it back in. Do that 2 times. Then see if it pops up again.

Is anyone running the old black box with success or did they all have to be returned? I have one to install with the older box and wonder if I should call them today. Edit: yep, born 7/21 is going back to Vortech.

J&S is looking for a beta install S2000 in SoCal for our timing controller. It features boost retard and individual cylinder knock retard. Should get rid of that pesky crackling noise up on top.

Applications have already been developed for the MR2 Spyder, Nissan Maxima, and 4.6L Mustang.

John, you should post the inquiry on a new thread. and perhaps in the socal forum of this site. I'm sure you'll get plenty of inquiries.

If you are looking for a tester with an SC, send Sideways a PM.
