Noise from engine in low revs
Hi people i recently picked up my s2k its japanese import
a couple of days after i picked it up (and by the time the jap fuel had run out) and i started using Irish 95 Ron Crap!
it has started to make noise on starting and also at very low revs when its accelerating
i believe the term is "pinking"?
my mechanic thinks its to do with ignition timing, its has a spoon ecu,
Has anyone else seen this??
is it harmful??

What you're describing is pinging or knocking in your engine because of the high compression. This sound is made because the combustion is happening earlier than it's supposed to.
Your S2000 has a knock sensor to retard timing if it detects pinging in your engine but the pinging is still bad for your engine and you won't get full performance out of your car.
Use higher octane (or RON) fuel and it should go away.

thanks R dizzle this makes perfect sense actually as it is a jdm model they have a higher compression ratio than european models however jap fuel is higher octane so thats why it does not ping over there in japan
95 ron is the only fuel available over here
does anyone know a good octane booster???
