Default Noise while bedding in 4.44 Gear-X gears?

Just had a 4.44 fitted, and it sounds very noisy on part / light throttle, like grating rocks. I can imagine it needs to bed in as it's probably got a slightly different mesh pattern, and my installer has assured me it's normal for the first few hundred miles.

As i'm a natural worrier, I wondered if anyone else had the same?

Cheers

It should not be that noisy the 4.44 are probably the quietest gears out there. Mine sound a bit different between about 3300rpm and 4000rpm and if I didnt tell you the car had gears you wouldnt know the difference. I just know how it sounded with the stock gears. Talk to puddydaddy he is the gear guru around here.

Thanks!

These are really noisy on part load, like grating of rocks. On load and off load they are fine...

You can always buy the gear set from racingbeat.com Puddydaddy may source them from there as well. They are not cheap I paid 450.00 about 3 years ago from what I hear they are 500.00 plus.

I would venture to say it is more of an install issue than the gear set itself, but then again i'm no expert either.

4.44 gears should be nearly as quiet as OEM. Some of the noise might be coming from your transmission. I went from 4.57 gears to 4.44, and the noise from the 4.57s masked noise from my transmission. Once the 4.44s were installed, I could hear the transmission noise more clearly. The 4.44s should be fairly quiet - even during break-in.

I put my car on a 4-point lift and had a friend run the car while in the air. The diff was very quiet - the aft part of the transmission was making noises similar to the ones you described. I have a used AP2 transmission in my car.

If you find the noise is coming from your diff - it is a setup issue. I wouldn't go very long with your diff making excessive noise - if it's well out of spec, it may result in a rapid failure.
