I believe the reminder chime for the headlights only happens when you open the door have the key out and the lights on.

Thanks for the reply Negcamber.

Sorry if I was not clear - the headlight reminder chime does not work on my car at all (I only discovered that there should be one by reading the manual).

The key-in-the-ignition chime reminder does work.

I'm curious if they use the same actual chime generator (what ever that is) or are totally different circuits.

Yes, criuse control works fine.

To the best of my knowledge so do all of the other electrical components.

I've read that some S owners have disabled their warning chimes - why is beyond me, but are you the original owner of your S?

No, we bought the car used. Aside from an aftermarket stereo the car appears to be 100% stock. Not to say someone could not have disabled the chime.

The problem has arisen a couple of times when my girlfriend has been driving the car. She likes to have the lights on during the day for better visibility and has forgotten to turn them off and ends up with a dead or near dead battery.

It seemed quite odd to me that a newer car would even let you leave the lights on when the ignition was off, let alone not have some sort of reminder, so I read over the manual and, sure enough, it makes reference to a reminder chime.

I can't say for sure if it has ever worked since we have the car or not as I never really paid any attention to it.

Most other cars I've had have a small relay that acts as a buzzer. I'm not even sure what causes the chime in this car. I tried to look for the key-in-the-ignition reminder one to see what it was and see if there were any loose wires to it (in case both warning systems used the same chime) but it seemed to be up behind the dash and I did not have time to conduct a more thorough search.

Anyone know if there is a typical way to disable the chime - I could at least work back from that and see it maybe that was done to this car.

All I know is Billman has done stuff like that in the past, not sure if he's around right now though. The headlights have a tone reminder while the keys have a triple chirp reminder, so they are different, but I don't know if they are on the same circuits. You may want to ask in the Electronics forum about the chimes.
