Default Not another rear clicking thread...

wanted to get your .02 on this noise. Replaced the bearing and retorqued the nut with grease on the face but not threads. Put some grease on the axle splines enough to cover but not a lot blobs like some people recommend. Getting this noise coasting ~5mph. Had to work to hear it by accelerating/decelerating in a straight line. It actually got worse after new bearing install and only heard it before during starting.

Uploading video now.

Supposed to leave to Chukwalla today - hope someone can shed some light...

From my experience the bearings themselves do not make noise when unloaded so I would suspect something else but it is really hard to tell much from the vid. Not much in that area but outer CV or axle bucket... are you sure there is not brake problem?

Could even be diff related. Really hard to tell from here. Doesn’t sound like one of the more typical noises I have heard from the related parts. Definitely check that there is no foreign objects hitting any moving parts. Could just be a simple "card in the spokes" syndrome. Pull the wheels off and look at everything.

Here's another video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzhYaAE-EFo

Took the car to a shop, mechanic who pressed in the wheel bearing (who told me he doesn't think the bearing is bad when I brought him the hub - we did it anyway) said that he too would have thought it was the bearing. His next guess was the axle - we drove around in circles, he couldn't even hear the noise at first *not listening to the right one*... I was about to drive away and asked if we can throw it on the lift so I can show him how I recreated the noise.

Car went on lift, rear suspension was raised, we put her in first, and then the noise started to happen. He was at a loss.

Told me it could be caliper/rotor/wheel/etc - no idea until he starts to take it apart... But, he feels it's nothing major. THIS was my big question as I've been trying to head out to Chuckwalla since noon.

5 hours later I'm kind of feeling better... Taking a OEM set of pads with me (Currently xp10 (f) and xp8 (r) -- it COULD be the pad moving around but I have not tried swapping them...)

Definitely going to consult the masses once I get there.

So... everyone's stumped. I'm making a game out of this, time to find the next clue.
