Odd noise on crank
When I crank my S2k (2001 with 64k miles) it makes an odd noise that only lasts about 1 to 2 seconds. Almost sounds like the starter keeps going for a second or two after the engine is already running. It's gotten worse over the past few months.
Any ideas? Could it be the timing chain tensioner?
I'll try to get a youtube vid of it tonight, I drove the prelude to work today.

Ok this isn't mine but this is the noise. The first crank is WITH the noise, the 2nd without.

I have the same thing. But only occasionally. I don't drive my s2000 very often, so I just chalk it up to that. It seems to happen more when I start it the first time after not driving it for a while. But under regular use, it usually goes away.
Interested to see any other comments though. Maybe someone knows what this actually is.
It basically sounds like the starter trying to turn over again after the car has been started. IE: on a normal turn-key car...turning the key to start after the engine is running.

I have always had that problem on cold starts. But I didn't drive my s2000 at all this last winter so I haven't had it occur lately. I don't know why, but 5W-30 oil (as opposed to 10W-30) seemed to make it go away in the cold weather when I daily drove it all year. Don't know if it was in my head, but it seemed to help.

This may help or not help you but it cured my starter sticking (overrun) issue.
I came across a post suggesting to quickly hit the starter button hard roughly 10 times before turning on the key.
I gave it a try and I also blipped the start button once or twice with the key fully on.
