Default Odd part ID

So I’m getting towards to the end of my engine rebuild, bottom end is all buttoned up, oil pan and front cover are on, and I’m ready to put the head on. Anyways, I was going through the box of bolts I was given by the Honda tech that disassembled it for me over a year ago and I came across 8 of these springs.

Not sure I’ve ever seen these before and I can’t seem to find them in the service manual. I don’t really even know where they could go since our engines don’t really have 8 of anything. Any of you know what these are?

Lost motion springs, there are 8 holes in the cylinder head, they drop in before putting the rocker assy on.

They keep the center VTEC roller rockers in contact with the camshafts.

Lost motion assembly. Four on the intake side, four on the exhaust side.

Thanks guys! I figured it out earlier after pouring through the manual over and over and feeling dumb after finding them. On the plus side I’ve got my first post with Billman so that’s cool!

Billman, what is your recommended break in oil/process?
Thanks!

Whatever oil you use normally is good for break-in. No VTEC for 600 miles. Lots of varied, 3/4 throttle operation during those 600 miles.

Just as important, maybe even more so, is new-build initial startup/prime:

-remove coil packs and spark plugs
-disconnect 4 injector connectors
-crank the engine with the starter until the red oil light goes OFF (you’ll be surprised how long this takes)
-install spark plugs at 25 ft-lbs
-connect injectors and install coil packs
-fire engine for the first time
