Default Odometer rollback help

How hard would it be to roll back an s2000 cluster? Is it possible? I ask because, the autocheck report I purchased for a s2k I'm thinking of buying reports a rolled back odometer. The carfax report didn't show anything. The vin is JHMAP11421T006615, if you know of any other way to check. Basically, the carfax report showed on 3/17/07 it was taken in for service, didn't show a milage, then the autocheck report said that on 3/17/07(a dealer check for the electrical system/powertrain) the mileage was 112,000 and at the next event a month later it was 70,000. Before the rollback, it was 63k, 8 months before. I've talked to the seller, he didn't know anything about it, it was 2 owners ago on the autocheck. Other than the odometer, the car seems pretty good, I'm just worried that if someone rolled back the odometer they may have done something else. Also, the alleged odometer rollback happened less than a month before it was sold.

Possible... if you replace the cluster from a vehicle with lower mileage. I don't know if the mileage on an S is stored in the cluster or computer, but I bought a new cluster for another vehicle I have and it now shows 100k less than actual mileage. I personally would be suspicious of any vehicle with "funny" mileage... unless the owner could explain the difference. (such as the cluster or computer took a shit and had to be relaced so the mileage is not actual) If you get the answer, I would run for my life!

If an odometer rollback happened, it wouldn't have been the current owner, or the one before him, it would have been the one before that owner, or the dealer he sold it to .

If the mileage was 63k before, then 112k and then 70k within the span of a couple of months I'm willing to bet the 112k was a clerical error, it'd be pretty hard to put 43k on in just a couple months.

x2

Not saying that there's no chance that there was a rollback, but I have seen this happen on a few Carfax reports. There would be an error, and it showed as rollback.

This was my thinking as well. I called up the dealer earlier, and they didn't have a record available right then, they said they'd call me back if they had anything though.

That sudden jump definitely looks like a clerical error to me. Obviously check for scuffs, screwdriver scratches, wear on the screws around the gauge cluster to see if it was ever removed. Usually when someone removes the gauge cluster to roll back the odometer, they scuff up the interior trim doing so.

Then again, that depends on where the mileage is stored in the S2000.
