does it have a K&N type of cotton air filter ?, if so it is likely air filter oil which would be from a slight over-oiling of the filter during servicing. It would not be transmission oil as it could not get up that far and our transmission oil is not red.

Even the factory filter has some light oil on it.

The best method I have heard, if you have time, is to oil it liberally and cover it with a cloth and leave it overnight so the cloth will soak up the left over oil

Some engine oils are red (LE and Redline for sure). It wouldn't hurt to replace your PCV valve just in case it is engine oil.
