Default oil consumption

oil consumtion

Please advise how much oil is the S2000 really supposed to burn/use per 1000 miles? At the current rate half my oil will be gone before the next 9000 mile service interval

I've never known a new engine to burn so much oil. I thought heavy oil consumption was only found in old worn engines? Is it really designed to burn oil?

Mine burnt one quart in the first 1500 miles and never a drop again ( noticeably anyways) why are you servicing at 9000 miles.

That should be at or around 3000. Or are you saying at the 9000 mile interval???

Not only are we told, by Honda, that it is normal, it IS normal if most of us burn an excessive amount of oil. The best theories I've heard are related to ring break-in against our unusual cylinder walls. I used a quart in the first 1K, then another in about 2K, and then a third in maybe 3K miles.

I have used about 1 quart in 6000 miles...most of it during the first few thousand, but still just enough for me to top it off every few weeks.

I was burning about 1 qt or so every 1000 miles until about 5500 miles when I changed to Mobil 1. The car has had lots of break in with autocrosses and my cloverleaf drives. Since then, it has not burnt any noticeable amount of oil.

It is very normal for the F20C motor to burn oil during break in. This is why Honda specifies that you check the oil AT EVERY FILL UP. The lowest ring on the piston is the oil skirt ring and must be fully seated before oil consumption ceases. At what point seating occurs is governed by initial manufacturing tolerances and break in by the owner. It is best to vary the RPM's and loads on the engine to assure a quick break in......
