Default oil consumption ap1 fix

first 2001 ap1 75k when bought 106k now. it would drink mobil 1 10w30 even with just regular driving. it was very alarming. the next oil we tried Pennzoil platinum 10w30. zero burn!! its amazing.. we track this car also thunderhill and laguna seca but not a drop. ok might be lucky who knows right? so now just purchased another 2001 with 150k on it. first oil I changed it to was rotella t5 10w30 because walmart was out of pennz. after one day of racing my friends ap2 the oil looked burnt and went from high level to barely registering on the dip stick. next oil change I switched to pennz platinum 10w30. ive been having a lot of issues with this car. miss fire codes, thinking I have bent valves.. but got that all squared away. took it to thunderhill checked oil after every session.. after 4 sessions I lost maybe half a quart. anyone having oil consumption issues you should give this oil a try. I have nothing to do with pennz oil, just trying to pass good info along.

interesting. i went to fully synthetic from the honda dealer and had residual leak from the valve cover. was thinking about steering away from fully synthetic.

The Pennzoil you show has a lot less volatility than Mobil 1, it's noack value for platinum is under 4% Mobil1, is around 10%.

^ yup the volatility rating of the new PZ platinum is extremely low, the lowest I have seen. That should account for some of the oil loss reduction.

So what does this mean for performance of the oil itself besides lower consumption? Good? Bad?

I had been using Pennzoil Platinum in my S with zero issues, and it didn't drink even a drop I think (AP2 though).

I switched to Castrol Edge Syntec just out of popularity. Still zero issues.

I think the Pennzoil Platinum is an excellent oil, is all I'm saying.

I'll try this one next. Mobil 1 burned 1qt/1000 miles, Castrol Syntec is going about 1qt/1500-2000 miles.

I switched to Pennzoil 10w 30 High Mileage Motor Oil in my AP1 and noticed drastic improvements over castrol syntec.

My engine (f20) was burning a quart every 2500 on castrol edge titanium, I just switched to pennzoil ultra platinum 3k mi ago and I've topped it off twice about 400ml in total, at this rate I'll be changing oil before I run through a whole quart.

Why would one oil burn and one wouldn't? Obviously it's getting into the combustion chamber, but why do some oils get in there and some don't? Does Mobil become thinner over time / use and slip through seals, where as Pennzoil / Castol retain their weight for longer?
