OIL Consumption can actually IMPROVE!-
The first owner of my 01 claimed that it used essentially no oil between changes when I bought it at 24K miles. I switched to Mobile 1 10W-30 right away and was shocked to find it a quart low after about 1300 miles. I began to top it off frequently(about 100 cc per addn) and monitor consumption very carefully and accurately, even creating a spreadsheet that calculated recent vs longer-term MPQ. Over the next few thousand miles I watched consumption drop to about 2200 MPQ. Then, after my next oil change I was pleased to see it climb to 3500 MPQ. The oil is also staying perfectly clean. It is almost as though the engine took a little while to adapt to the super-synthetic. I drive moderatly hard and almost never let the revs drop below 4500 RPM, even in slow traffic(usually back and forth between second and third.)
You know Mobil1 changed their formulation recently? About 3-4 months ago if memory serves. And a good thing too. Their previous formulation was showing problems with reduced fuel mileage and other wierd things on many types of vehicles (and oil consumption on my S2K too).
I wonder if your change in consumption coincided with the formulation change?
