Hi there, lets not jump the gun on the blown head gasket, our engines are equiped with a oil cooler which uses engine coolant as the transfer medium. If the car drives good (no power drop) and you are not seeing a white vapor from the exhaust I would put the blown head gasket idea aside for a bit and do some more troubleshooting.

The oil cooler is of the sandwich type (e.g. it is between the block and oil filter). I haven't taken it apart, but there are usually some crush washers and o-rings associated with these types of assemblies so an investigation shouldn't break the bank, and it is rather easy to access as its right behind the oil filter, you can see it clearly from underneath the car.

You can see the assembly on chapter 8 page 3 of the s2000 manual.

If you are really fearful of the head gasket do a compression test.

Hope this helps.

wouldn't leakdown serve his purposes better than compression?

What if our cars blow a little white smoke upon start up and then never again?

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure its white? Could just be condensation, if you can get someone to start it up while your at the rear and then you can see/smell it, you should know what oil smells like etc etc. Not sure if that helps, steam is somewhat normal since its a product of combustion. Other than that I dunno

I have some oil/sludge type looking material in the top of my radiator, I think it will be ok, it was an extremely small amount.
