Default Oil Cooler question

hey, is having an oil cooler any good foy our engine?
Cause I heard, that having an oil cooler can cause damage to your connecting rod bearings during engine start-up due to oil not reaching to them in time.
Is this a fact or myth?

It's a myth. A properly set up oil cooler system will have a thermostat that doesn't allow any oil to flow to the cooler until it reaches a preset temperature. And I'm biased because I have one.

Well, I have B&M piece, but I haven't bolt it on yet cause of all those strange rumours.
One thing I'm not shure of is, is the "thermostat" thing that Fperra is talking about, cause I haven't seen nothing like that in the kit.
So if anyone knows something about this kit please let me know,.

Here are a couple of examples of oil thermostat bypass adapters:
501ERL
Sandwich Filter Adapter

These thermostats are designed to bypass the oil from the oil cooler until 160-180 deg F.

Here is another one from Canton that bypasses at 215 deg F:
Canton Oil Thermostat

Check out this page for more info:
Earl's Cooling Systems

Of course, other manufacturers offer similar products. What oil cooler and thermostat are you using Fperra? Hecash, are you referring to an oil thermostat and/or oil cooler from a Volvo?

Hi

I have got a Grex oil cooler and it does not have a thermostat as far as i'm aware, could this be damaging my engine or at least doing it no good.

Thanks Kris

I'm using the Earl's sandwitch, but I'm switching to the Canton unit. I can't get my oil temp above 190 degrees which I think is too low.

The B&M kit has a sandwich, well actually it comes with two
But none of them don't look anything like a thermostat, the look more like a simple adapter to relocate the oil filter
I guess I'll have to get an oil thermostat to go with the kit

Do you remember where you bought the Canton from? I've been searching on line for one but have only found two sources and not much of a bargain.

For those running a remote filter and external air to air cooler, What are your oil pressures in VTEC?

88 -89 psi for me. Thats with Delvac 1 10-40 oil. My max oil temps are running 190 degrees and my max water temps are 185 degrees. The fans kicks in at 178 and the oil and water temps quickly drop about 10 degrees.
