Hey Mark.....take it to Peterson Honda in Riverdale (like ten minutes from my house). The owner has a Stook and is a car person. I was very, very, pleased with their responses to my needs.

Got one sitting on my workbench, I still need to test it. My source in HK can get these as well, but I think there is someone else already importing them (someone sent me this filter to try). When I get the time (hopefully this weekend) I'll carve it up like I did the others.

Marcucci,

I saw a post of yours that said that the US filters are made by Wix, but the Canadian filters are made by FRAM.

According to http://www.honda2001.com/owners/service_pa...aqs_fluids.html,

Honda oil filters are made from Variable Density Filter Paper:

This specially designed paper is folded
in a complex pattern and inserted in a
small space. It combines a large filtering
surface with cleaning efficiency. Certain
areas can trap contaminants as small as
6 microns in size; the remainder can trap
contaminants 20 microns in size - the ones
that cause major component wear.

If Honda engines are notoriously reliable, is it because owners of Honda vehicles use genuine Honda oil filters or aftermarket filter brands?

If Honda put so much engineering effort into designing the S2K engine, would they sacrifice reliability by using an unsatisfactory oil filter?

Just more food for thought.

Yet another reason to use JDM oil filters. Honda & Toyo Roki share a patent on this material, and I'd bet the US available filters don't use it:
http://www.delphion.com/cgi-bin/viewpat.cm...T=pdf&MODE=fstv

Unfortunately, I don't have a subscription to the above site, so can only see the first page of the US Patent.

The US & Canada filters probably filter reasonably well, but I'd bet the Toyo Roki filter is better. Also, in many of the Fram filters I've had apart, the cartridge spring usually doesn't seal well to the cardboard end caps at all. Remember, we're trying to filter stuff 6 - 20 micron in diameter (0.0002" - 0.0008"), so a VERY small leak will let through particles that can damage bearings.
