Oil filters?
I am in a cycle to change the engine oil every 6 months and the filter every year. I am using Amsoil 10-W-30 oil and the Amsoil 25,000 mile rated filter. I drive about 10-12k miles a year mixed city and highway driving with a few track days, if possible. I use a Fumoto Quick drain valve with a lever lock and a Bawss oil filter lock. Any concerns?
Most people do it the other way around. Change the filter twice as often as the oil. I dont think I know anyone that runs longer intervals on the filter than the oil.
I personally cannot get myself to go that long. My S, running full synthetic, gets oil and filter changed every 5k. However, I do autocross it, and keep it in Vtec as much as possible during autox runs. So for me it is as much about looking at the oil and checking everything over as it is the life of the oil itself.

That is actually my "strap wrench". I learned years ago that on some of my cars with harder to get to filter, a good strong leather belt (aka the one I wear when working on the cars and in the yard) can get in more spots and is more than sufficient for loosening oil filters. It also gives just enough extra grip and leverage to make putting our filter on properly much easier. Not all tools have to be expensive!
So just adding my experience. Having owned 27 cars to date, having changed the oil on most of them, having my S2000 since new 10/2003 and having used honda filters and done all my own oil changes...I use chevron 10/30 purchased by the case at costco. I hand tighten the filter. I have never had one come off. I spread oil on the gasket before installation. I can do this in my sleep having changed the honda oil many times over the past 11 odd years. I do not use a torque wrench.
I also adjusted the valves a few years ago, no torque wrench. I use the torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts. I installed the plugs hand tight as well....on all my cars...go figure???

Once, with my former wife's car, the filter came off after a speedy oil change, within 5 miles of the shop!!! That was on her 1999 acura legend. I just went to the store, got a new filter and some oil and redid the oil change myself...never brought it back there again.
I also adjusted the valves a few years ago, no torque wrench. I use the torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts. I installed the plugs hand tight as well....on all my cars...go figure???
Its more than just luck in my case.
Once, with my former wife's car, the filter came off after a speedy oil change, within 5 miles of the shop!!! That was on her 1999 acura legend. I just went to the store, got a new filter and some oil and redid the oil change myself...never brought it back there again.
So, you are ignoring the Honda spec of tightening the filter 7/8 of a turn after contact, and are just making it hand tight? And after reading this thread you aren't seeing the light that you need to change your ways?
And you are basing this solely on your past experience of not having a filter come loose yet? (and destroying your engine)
Isn't that like smoking 2 packs a day, and using tanning beds regularly, and since you didn't get cancer yet, you figure what you are doing is fine?

I installed that Purolator PureONE PL14459 oil filter last fall and drove 4 miles to put the car into storage. I noticed an oil leak on the bottom of the filter, looked at it from under the car and thought that I had actually made a mistake and installed one of the filters for my MG.
Checked the number when I pulled the car out this spring and was surprised to see that it is the filter specified for the Honda. But it doesn't look like it seats correctly. I'll monitor.
I normally swap the filters after every second track day, so roughly twice a summer. That's usually about a thousand miles, but this one makes me uncomfortable, so like yours, it might not last even 500 miles.
I check a lot of other stuff too, but although I tighten down with a filter wrench, I do check the filter after virtually every run at a track day. Same with the MG, which is a dedicated vintage racer. One of these days, I'll get my act together and safety wire the filters for track use. But until then, I double check because the last thing I want is to put the guy behind me into the wall because I'm spewing oil.

That's the thing. For the 40 times you got away with hand-tightening the thing... the one time the filter spins off & dumps all the oil on the ground is all it takes to destroy the engine.
Kinda high stakes gamble, IMHO.
