Default oil gone

hey guys, so i got a quick question, i just did an oil change friday and i already noticed today i lost half of my oil from the dipstick. i have no oil leaks, i just replaced the valve cover gasket and did a full maintenance job. i put in castrol edge full synthetic 10w-30 and a royal pruple oil filter. i googled it and i read that people have burnt a quart every 1000 miles. what do you think could be the issue? ive doone 2 pulls since friday. different oil? valve adjustment? it is an ap1, and theyre known to burn oil. i also dont smell the burning of oil.

you most likely burned the oil, you MUST check the oil very frequently in this car, I check it almost every time I use it.

Half the oil from the dipstick is about 1/2 quart. How many miles did you go since the oil change?

Do you know for a fact that the oil was actually "full"? When did you check it after you finished the oil change? Did you run the engine for several minutes, let sit for an hour or two, then check and top up? Or did you screw the drain bolt and filter on, fill it to the top of the dipstick "X's" and say, "Yup, all done"? After an oil change 1/2 qt can easily disappear from filling the filter and filling all the nooks and crannies from when it was drained.

Did you put the oil filter in dry ?, if so that will use most of what you see as being missing. I always pre-fill my filter so it won't drop as much after start-up. A lot of people also make an error reading the dipstick as the readings can be different on the two sides of the dipstick, there is also a difference between cold readings and hot readings. I think your missing oil is a combination of the different factors.

you must read both sides of the dipstick and top off on oil based on the lower reading.

Yeah be sure to check your oil stick at least every 250 miles, or when you fill up the gas tank. It's a good habit to get into.
