Default Oil in intake

Whilst doing some mods on my car the other day I noticed an oil sludge (almost like grease) in the intake pipe from the air filter to the mouth of the Comptech Supercharger. It must have come from the breather hose that runs from the valve cover to this part of the intake.

I'm wondering why it was there. Was it because of pressure in the valve cover (perhaps the PCV is letting manifold pressure through) or because of vacuum in the intake drawing it down from the valve cover? Maybe just because of over fill or some deeper problem.

The car has the SC with a 8lb pulley and a BOV venting to atmo rather than returning to the intake tract.

I observed this oil film the very first week I put on the Vortech. I guess over time, this can get thick and become more slimy.

I have also noticed oil in my intake before and right around the lip of the blower itself. I guess its normal. I have also met someone who had they're supercharger oil return line backwards and was shooting oil out his intake. Thats not normal. I heard he blew the seals in the housing itself.

I am dealing with this right now actually, I have a catch can installed and filled it and even had oil spray out my BOV - My guess is that I have a bad teflon seal on my blower! There is considerable oil in the cooler and throttly body as well!

I have ordered one and will install it in the breather line and see what happens.

I always noticed a bit of oil on the blower's inlet, but never found any on the outlet or the Aftercooler's fins. I think the combination of the oiled KN filter, and the PCV fresh air inlet were the source.

Yes a oil catch can does help, it's purpose is to prevent blow by & to prevent the intake from getting sludged up.

It is my understanding that a catch can installs on the PCV line from the valve cover to the intake manifold. This line has a one way valve in it that is supposed to allow Positive Crankcase presure to be Ventilated.

The hose I'm referring to is the other line from the valve cover. This is supposed to be the 'breath in' line for when the crankcase (and hence valve cover) has a vacuum. As I am getting oil sludge coming down this line I can't help but suspect that my PCV may not be coping with the pressure from the SC and pressurising the valve cover forcing air/sludge down the breather tube.

I spoke to a friend wh was having this same problem with his Novi unit on his NSX and he remedied it by caping the intake manifold inlet and using his catch can as a one way from the PCV valve and putting a breather filter in the valve cover where our valve cover connects to the intake elbow between the filter and the blower - he said is creates for a nuetral crankcase pressure if that makes sense!
