I found this on a RAV4 thread. Not sure if the 2.4L 22R is similar to the F20/22 design at all, but might provoke more thinking:

Yes.

Oil was passing through the head gasket from the main oil feel hole, right front of the engine.

I sealed the circle in the head gasket with adhesive M and its been cured.

Okay. Thanks.

I asked because I'm having trouble diagnosing a coolant issue myself. Would you please take let me know what you think?

I believe I'm having the same issue. 01 AP1, track only car, 100K on engine, very well maintained, and running strong. Noticed accumulation of what looks like oil in the overflow tank and under the cap during preseason prep.
Drained coolant - pictured below. Oily residue on hoses.

I assume I need to remove the head and inspect the gasket?

Is 3M 847 "Adhesive M" ?

Thanks,

Took off the head today. Judging by the gasket, I highly suspect it's feeding into the coolant from the high-pressure oil feed.

I am surprised to see how much the hondabond has migrated into the head gasket... I understand the assemble calls for a thin line around the chain housing, but the amount of seepage into the head gasket is okay?

I will go ahead and order all the parts.

Hey Billman,

I think I'm having this same issue. Do you happen to have photos of this process that fixed the oil migrating into the coolant?
