Hi peeps

Did a service on the car the other night, just after a little advice as it seemed to take ages for the level to come up on the dipstick.

Put in 4.9ltrs and started the car oil light went out straight away but had to leave the car overnight to get an accurate reading. Following morning it was on MAX so started it up and again took ages after running to come back up to max, Ive not seen inside one of these engines before and wondered if its just normal..

Oil level should be checked with oil fully warm, about 5 minutes after shut-down. On this vehicle you must check both sides of the dipstick as the reading can be different on the two sides, always go by the lower of the two readings as being accurate. Hot reading will be different than a cold reading too. As for the length of time it takes to get an accurate reading, it shouldn' be more than 5 minutes if the oil is fully warm.

 

if the oil reading is max will there be issues?

 

Max is good, low is bad. No need to go past max though.

 

Check both sides of the dipstick to be sure.

 

This may sound like a stupid question but I want to get this absolutely right. Is the reading at the bottom of the stick marked "HxxxxL"? Where h is high, and l is low?

 

Yes, the reading is the hatch-marked area at the bottom of the stick. You want the oil level to be exactly at the "H" mark on BOTH sides of the dipstick when you check it.

 

I believe the dipstick should be read within the hashed region. You should fill it to the top edge of the hashed region.
