oil too clean to read dipstick
There is another thread with a guy using Royal Purple with the same issue I always have. When I change the oil its so clean and clear its all but impossible to read the dipstick. I'm using the full synthetic German Castrol Syntec 0W30.
Never had this issue with any other car, and my S has 85K miles on it. I guess there are worse problems to have than a car with more than a few miles that still has oil spotless oil.
But its such a pain to check the oil, contorting to try to hold the dipstick in just the right light, while trying not to let it run and change the reading. Trying to wipe it from the top down to see where the wet part starts to try and read it that way.
When the oil gets some miles and starts to get dirty it gets a lot easier. But with fresh oil its, well its a pain.
Does everyone else have this issue? What tricks do you use to check your too clean to see oil?

We'll if you're putting the correct capacity in the motor you should be fine, turn the car on and check for leaks. If there is no leaks and you put the oem capacity in there I'd say you're safe.
But you should be able to see shiny oil on the dipstick.

Be sure to check BOTH sides of the dipstick. It is not unheard of to have oil on one side and nothing on the other. Engine is at a slant and some oil may drip on one side and you are actually low. See the threads by Billman on how many engines he sees that are damaged by low oil!!!
Lets be clear, I've changed oil on other cars before. I know how to read a dipstick. I don't have this problem with other cars. Apparently I'm not the only one with this issue with the S.
I like the paper towel suggestion. Thanks for that tip. Thats the sort of idea I was looking for.
