oil usage
im pretty sure i know the answer to this but wanted to run it by you all to make sure. i have a 02 s2000, i got an oil change 1,300 miles ago and it is about 3/4 of a qt low already. is it normal for our cars to use up oil that much that quickly. any response would be great. thanks, keith

Assuming everything is normal - go find a place to run the absolute crap out of the car. While running it hard, check the oil twice as often as you think you need to. Eventually the rings will (re)seat and it will stop using. Mine (107,656 miles) now uses absolutely no oil in my 10,000 mile oil change interval.

Sleeper...you've got a very rare s2k. I've heard of just a handful of s2ks that use no oil between changes.
Keith...yes, the s2k does use more oil than most other cars. It is partly due to the banjo bolts that squirt oil on the cyl walls to keep them cool at 9k rpm.
While it varies by car, some use as much as 1.5qts between 3k mile changes. Over 2qts per 3k miles is reason for some concern unless you are in vtec all the time.
Since new, my car has consistantly used about 1qt per 3k miles. Although I was able to reduce that by about a third after installing crank vents.

It's normal to burn oil, most high revving engines do. Mercedes engines are designed to burn oil too. Three friends of mine are honda mechanics, at the dealer. They said it's supposed to burn oil to lube the cylinder walls at high revs. I'd be concerned if my car didn't burn any...
It does seem like your burning a bit more than some. Could be all the vtecing
Mine is about 1/3 qt. per 3000 miles(min. vtecing). Just switched to mobil1, curious to see if that changes anything.

I am one of the lucky ones too I guess because at just under 8000 miles mine uses no oil at all. In fact, I honestly think I use more oil wiping off the dipstick a couple times once a week than it "burns".
I had the car about a year and broke it in with the original oil, changed oil when I installed the supercharger but stayed with dino oil + valvoline engine additive (high moly content). Just switched to synthetic but supercharged for 5000+ miles, tuned to 8600 rpm (AP2) and multiple track events - still no oil usage. I have used crank vents since the beginning and never run the car hard until fully warmed up if they are contributing factors.
