Default ok VTEC isn't working.

hey guys,

i dont feel the surge or even hear a surge anymore at 5500-6000 rpm. I had a friend drive it also to make sure it just wasnt me and he said the same thing.. my vtec is not working. first i thought it may be the oil level. i changed to mobil 1 synthetic oil about 2 weeks ago. (first oil change since i bought it used.. car has 20000 miles now... previous owner claims he used mobil 1 synthetic since 7000 miles) anyways my oil was just above midpoint. i used s2ki's search engine to see what else i can try so i tried tapping the map sensor and vtec solenoid ( i think xviper suggested trying this ) but it didnt work either. Anything else you guys think it may be? oh, car was FULLY warmed up and everything... im a little bummed right now

It is possible that you have malfunctioning Vtec Solenoid.
Or there could be something wrong with the Vtec solenoid wire.
I have mistakenly not re-wire the Vtec solenoid wire at ECU side when I was fooling around with piggy back device and guess what no VTEC. Helms service manual has some procedure in checking the VTEC device but it isn't for average person to easily diagnos without proper tool.
It is going to cost you money but I think the best bet at this point is to take it to any Honda dealer and let the mechanic diagnos what the problem is.
Good luck and report back to us.

Meantime, try resetting the ECU by pulling out the back up fuse for 30seconds.

LyNX, I don't recall the exact details of your original post regarding this problem so I might be repeating what you may have already been told.
Have you ever felt the VTEC surge in this car while you have owned it? If you have and it has now disappeared, then yes, have it looked at. If you've never felt it, then you need to know that the VTEC surge is most felt at full throttle when you're under max acceleration. If you're only part throttle when you transition past the 6000 rpm mark, you won't feel anything distinctive. I hope you sort this out soon. It's what makes this so much fun.
ps. Being in 1st or 2nd gear helps too.

You need oil, it should be all the way to the top X. I have never seen my oil dip down to the midpoint.
