I checked the archives on the subject of battery replacement since my original is getting weak.

I noticed many discussions a couple of years ago on frequent failures of the Optima batteries sized for our cars (D51) and even statements they were discontinued.

Have the Optima battery been improved? I see the model is currently available.

 

The braille and whatever the other rebrand version rock. Why would you want a heavier battery?

 

I got the bigger optima when i relocated it to the trunk and it works great unless i go a long time in between starts as it tends to die. I went with the heavier battery as it give better cranking amps, and helps the coils, because i have many gauges and a system running off it.

 

i run the group 34/78 optima yellow top in my car up front. works great. never dies, never blinks. great performance going on 2 years now.

 

Not looking for a heavier battery - what makes you think that?

 

Unless you have some big time electronic in your car, any decent battery is more than enough to handle the car. No point spending big money on the questionable Optima.

Personally, I have Interstate. I find it holds power better than average, because I have my car sitting in the garage for months at a time. Trust me, the size of our battery, it loses power quick. But if you drive your car regularly, than any decent battery will do.

 

It also helps to keep a trickle charger on it if it is parked for any extended period of time.

 

The factory Panasonic is what 28 lbs, a braille is 6.6?

I gave up on these guys after my third battery. Costco told me they would never sell them again. Who knows.

 

Just as an FYI. Costco is still selling them.
