At the worst, new longblock.

I would say <$2000 I you were doing the work yourself.

something like this happend to my civic long ago. most of the valves probably are bent and slapped the piston. so new pistons and valves for sure.

if a spark plug was damaged, a valve definitely dropped and flew around the cylinder... Look for a cheap engine in your area and you possibly have a cheap s2000!

Time for the F22c lol have the mad scientist rip apart the block, and see how bad everything is first, you might get lucky

I had the exact same symptoms when I dropped a valve. It will most likely be cheapest to buy a used engine or long block. If you have to pay someone to do the swap this can easily go over $5000.

Very true, my swap ran me 5,600 I would have attempted to do it myself but I was deployed

I miss shifted my car a few years ago. Luckily the motor is built so I only bent the valves. It cost me about $2,000 in parts to replace the Toda valves, springs and retainers and I also had some head work done at the time so the total was around $2,600. If this motor dropped a valve, you're looking at a new motor. I would keep checking the S2ki classifieds for a built motor to swap in. The guy I bought my Spoon HT from has a built motor for sale for $4,000. If you can do the work yourself, that would be a great deal.

Considering that you're even asking this question, assume an engine swap and $6k to get the car running correctly again.
