Default over rev ap1 wont start

Hey guys I dont actually own an s2k, but im about to work on my buddy's and thought this would be a great site to get some info before i tear it apart. Ill start off with the story of how it happened.
Ok so my buddy just got an ap1 s2k and i was teaching him how to drive stick, we were doing good until he suddenly morphed in to tony stuart or something we hit this bridge and he decides to gun it (i was yelling at him saying lets learn how to drive the car before we race it) but he didnt listen. We were in 5th gear at like 9 grand when he tried to do 6th he went into 4th and popped the clutch.
He was in fourth for awhile until he finally noticed me yelling at him saying CLUTCH CLUTCH CLUTCH!! lol.
anyways we the car started poppin and we pull over. the car now does not start and makes this lean pop at start up (the kind were it wants to blow off the intake cover)
I'm hoping all he did was jump timing, but we prolly effed something up pretty badly!!
Could yall give me some places on where to start looking and working my way down.
thx!!

Lucky for you, there was just a DIY posted on what to do....

The timing didn't jump. We have a timing chain.
It sounds like he bent some valves. Hopefully no valves hit the pistons, but it's a very real possibility.

I think your buddy should just cut his losses and by an automatic.

5th gear at 9000 rpm? That is somewhat over 120 mph. Friends don't let inexperienced friends drive insanely over the speed limits while pushing the S2K to its absolute performance limits. I suppose you two are quite lucky that nothing tragic happened. OMG!!

Probably went 3rd to 2nd. All the same, cracked retainers most likely.

Yea ur telling me!!! I had to change my pants after it was all over. lol. but i was in the passenger seat and obviously my yelling to stop didnt phase him. lol

Yea it could of been 2nd to 3rd, i was paying more attention to his feet than the shifter. i was trying to teach him to stop popping the clutch!!

anyways so the compression test was

Bent valves, cracked retainers. 100%.

Use AP2 retainers and keepers on the intake side only during the rebuild.

I use to teach people to fly - I carried a fire extinguisher with me in case someone froze at the controls. Bad thing for you is the steering wheel is on his side!. 120 mph and no control - I wouldn't instruct him anymore !
