Default over rev and misshift

I was just curious on how sturdy the S2000 motor was. How many of you have over rev/misshifted? Was there any problems after? Is a blown motor common with the S2000 due to a over rev/misshift?

Thanks

I've read in the main forum of several people who have done this. I suppose the main shift you have to be concerned with is the 2nd to 3rd. You could drop it into 1st if you aren't careful. Downshifting from 4th to 3rd is less of a risk...you are unlikely to drop it into 1st... And sixth to 3rd seems unlikely as well...?

Anyway...there have been at least three cases I've seen where people have bent or broken something due to a misshift and I'm sure there are more. Due to the lightweight engineering of the engine and drivetrain, it might be more susceptible to abuse in this fashion.

I think the most common mis-shift is 3-4... the ones that do usually end up in 2nd gear...

I've misshifted a few times, from 5th to 2nd, and motor seems oblivious to it...

You have either not been going very fast in 5th when it happened or you need to have the proctologist check you out for horseshoes!
Also, if you're really winding up the engine in a higher gear, 1st is very hard to get into without some serious double clutching and revving.

A great way to bend a valve stem.

heh, great way to break 'em all off

Bounce the rev limiter and your OK, but force it past 10k and your braking things.

Just two days ago I was in 4th at about 8900rpm and tried to shift to fifth instead went to third! I did not have my foot off the clutch all the way so immediatly I pressed the clutch again and shifted to fifth . When it went to third the car just did a nose dive and immediate fuel cut off . Ever since that incident my car does not soud or feel any different , but I'm more carefull when I speed shift .

Just a suggestion. Take your time shifting. I know when you are racing your adrenaline (sp?) is going pretty good. But stop and think of how much time you are gaining by speed shifting, not too much, and certainly not enough to justify a big $$$$ engine rebuild. Having only 255 miles on my S right now I am really taking the time to learn the tranni before I start beating on it, although admittedly is very difficult not to wanna abuse the hell out of it.

One thing I try to do when shifting is this. When shifting through the gears I try and let the stick go to center (essentially take your hand almost off of it, then you know straight up is third and straight down is fourth). Had the people that over-revved taken this fraction of a step to ensure their car was in the right gear, all would be good.

Just my .02cents
