wait a minute, how can you over rev the car, doing a 4 to 2 downshift around 60-65 mph 2nd can go up to 65ish?

if anythin that was one helluva downshift but there isn't any possible way of over revin. You just maxed out 2nd is all.

i'd listen to krazik on this one, he already proved that no damage could be done.

The only way to PROVE anything is for someone to check out the problem. The fact of the matter is, Krazik is probably right! Unless there is some type of financial problems that your going through at this time in your life, $90 is soo cheap for someone to double check on the valve train while doing a valve adjustment. Remember, its cheap insurance! I guess we will have to wait for Thursday to make sure that there is nothing wrong with my S!

Bigsalgt is right.

Krazik 'proved' nothing.
It's reasonable to argue his theory is relatively sound based on the information available. However, unless he pulled off the valve cover himself and inspected every retainer ... nothing was proven by his statement.

It's important to understand the over-rev in question didn't happen in a vacuum. One important fact not taken into consideration is there is no way to determine the timeliness of the speed determination relative to the miss-shift. A split second is all it takes to mask a slight to moderate over-rev.
Another factor not discussed is whether his speedo is calibrated or not. Reverend

-__- if the motor was accidently over rev'd and wasn't kept there for a long time... the motor should be FINE.... I've hit rev limiters for almost every kinda 4 cylinder KA24DE, SR20DET, D15, D16, B16, B18... and the list goes on including F20C. Engines are not as weak as some people think. If you accidently hit the redline, more than likely, you'll be ok, the rev limiter is there to keep an accident from turning bad. So unless you just don't take care of your motor... ie never changes oil, ect... the motor should be fine.

O.K., how about this interpretation:

Billman is charging $90 for his inspection of Bigsalgt's valve train to make sure there aren't any retainers riding up on the valve stems. Then, he's throwing in a performance valve adjustment FOR FREE!

It's really very simple, Bigsalgt is requesting a service that also allows the inspection of his valve train on the SLIGHT CHANCE that something may be amiss. It's been stated several times in this thread by several people and it is crystal clear to me the motivation and rationale behind his decisions.

I await the results of this service with anticipation. If it goes anything like my first valve adjustment (done at 23k miles), Billman will find a few valves out of specification and Bigsalgt will drive away with a slightly smoother and slightly peppier engine, assurance that all is well with the engine, and with good value for his money.

Very well said! It seems to me that this has become more of a financial situation then anything. To me, this is well beyond a $90 valve adjustment. Coraldoc tryed one way of thinking about this, lets try another. Think about it as if you were going to the dentist! You make an appointment for a cleaning and fluoride treatment. While in the process of the cleaning, your dentist notices a cavity and decides to fill it before the fluoride treatment. So now your $120 cleaning and treatment has saved yourself from the pain and added expense of a root canal! If you understand this then you can make the parallel to the valve adjustment!
