Default Overheating

I've had my rebuilt engine in for about 18 months. It has a 3mm head gasket and a hondata intake manifold insulator gasket.

About a month ago I overheated. Got all the way to 7 bars before I shut off (that's with Modifry's ECT BTW). Turns out a coolant line to my turbo (lovefab V1 high mount) had perished and was leaking.

Assuming all was well on the weekend we did some heat cycles and burped the system. There was so much air in the coolant it never seemed to end (??). And the bottom radiator pipe got hot once but in general seemed to stay cold.

Now AuDM Ss don't have a rear bleed point on the intake manifold. And the Hondata Intake Manifold Gasket blocks off the coolant at this point. Makes it pretty impossible to bleed the system fully.

I did notice some moisture in the exhaust but not sure this is enough to denote a leak. No plumes of steam or glycol smell. Just a few drops.

And can the 3mm gasket actually blow? It's 3 parts metal not compressed fibre like the old days. I confess I never did a retorque because it's a huge job and there are no actual figures to torque it to anyway.

Any suggestions as to what the problem may be or how to ascertain it? ANy other questions I haven't answered in my post?

Oh, since the overheat and lines replacement we did a whole day of tuning. Took it up to 20psi and no problems with overheating. But I drive into town one night and she climbs to 5 bars.

Got disappearing coolant?

Done a leakdown test with a hot engine?

What is your ECT driver set for at 5 bars?

I did have disappearing coolant. Disappearing out my turbo lines. Not sure if I still do. Will have to keep an eye on it.

I haven't done a leakdown test yet. Will pop out to Chris Barry's factory on Saturday and do one.

ECT at 5 bars. Have no idea. I had a faulty ECT and Modifry kindly replaced it. It appeared to be calibrated differently to my previous one but I'm not sure at what increments. I am installing an AEM Serial gauge at present so I'll have a better eye on my temps in future.

Depending on the settings of the ECT driver, 5 bars may not be overheating. Also make sure the ECT driver's ground is attached to PCM sensor ground.

When you get the serial gauge installed you'll have a better idea of what the actual coolant temps are.
