Got the code to (possibly) replace the pre-cat o2 sensor but I'm wondering if this code could also mean that the catalytic converter needs to be replaced as well? If that's the case, what's the deal with Honda's warranty regarding the converter? Is it less than 80k miles or less than 80k miles AND 8 years? Thanks in advance.

 

Why do you think the cat is bad? Have you replaced the front O2 sensor, before? And the CEL came back? P0135 seems to be only O2 sensor related.

I don't actually think the cat is bad.. I did a lot of searching on here (maybe a little too much lol) before I posted and there were a few posts that mentioned that a damaged catalytic converter was a relatively common issue and it usually coincided with the o2 sensor going.

I have not yet replaced the o2 sensor and it does seem like it's just related to the o2 sensor as I can smell gasoline whenever the top or windows are down and I'm at idle.

Just to verify, the o2 sensor I need to replace is the upstream/pre-cat one correct?

Yes the upstream one. About a year ago I was driving around with that faulty sensor and it ended up busting up my cat but luckily my S was still covered by the federal emissions warranty so honda replaced my cat with a brand new one

 

So I replaced the sensor and about 20-30 miles later, the CEL came back on again. What else could be wrong?

 

P0135, again? How did you reset the original CEL error?

 

I reset it by using an OBD scanner. Why? Is that unusual?

 

No, just wondered if you reset it by disconnecting the battery. Same CEL P0135 error?
