pings/"knocks" and loss of torqe

Hopefully, I am being overly sensitive with my car, but it seems like it has been ticking/ tapping more and I've lost my low end torque...any ideas? The noise is heard best when I idle....Are the two unrelated? Is this something that needs to fixed ASAP.

Is it possible you got some bad gas or has it sounded that way for a while?

How many miles? Perhaps it's time for a valve adjustment or check the spark plugs for torque. I wouldn't be too concerned with noise from the valves unless it is a audible tap, tap, tap that doesn't go away as rpm's increase.

If you still feel that something's not right take it to your dealer asap.

Have you checked your oil level lately? Many owners have noticed that performance degrades when the oil level is low.

Is your check engine light coming on during these episodes? Again, a few of us have had problems with spark plugs, bad gas, or clogged fuel injectors.

I would take it to your dealer if it doesn't get any better.

I think the noise you are hearing is your valves. The valve train is pretty noisy when it is adjusted properly. Honda designs the engine with a significant amount of valve clearance, which is more noisy.

Is it hot where you live? The loss of low end power could just be due to heat soak. Does it seem stronger at night, or when you first start out in the morning?

Gernby...your the man. That is exactly what it is like. It is hot as hell here. In the morning, when i drive to work, the car runs great. Even when going home ie. short drives, soon after starting, but drive it for a while or drive it a little fast/high rpm on the hwy, and when you get off...it lags ass. what can solve this....the cold air filter doohicky?

The other thing you can try is an insulator on your headers and any other hot bits. I've heard a good insulator can drop under hood temperature by up to 40 F. This makes colder air, PLUS, on naturally aspirated engines, give better exhaust velocity, and so gives more power. I'm getting mine done in a couple weeks.

DON'T get the header wrap. Apparently a combination between uneven heat and the pressure on it makes the header rust and crack sooner. Get an aluminium ceramic spray on insulator. It's about double the price, but lengthens the life of your header.

You can probably use header wrap on radiator hosing pretty safely. Make sure heat leaves by the radiator only, and not out the hoses.

Also, I have a slight problem of pinging and a power drop near 7500-9000rpm... I think it's the fuel filter, so I'm going to change it. Probably time to anyway.

I agree about the CAI, but the best mod I've found for heat related power loss is the Hondata insulator / gasket / spacer for the intake manifold. You can read about it at http://www.s2000.org/mods/insulator/

The only mods that I have done are cooling mods (look at my signature). It is really hot down here in Texas, so I have focused on that. I truly believe that my car is just as strong at 100 degrees F, as it is at 60 degrees F.
