Default popping noises

hi you guys, I got a question... when I sit in my car.. and wait for my GF to leave her house when I pick her up and stuff.. sometimes, after my engine idles for like.. about a few minutes.. I hear popping noises every like... 5 seconds. its not a big noise.. sounds like.. when your car is cooling down after you shut it off and it sounds like a tiny rock hitting the engine metal parts... do any of you guys have that? it doesn't happen right away.. it happens only after my engine is running and I sit there and let it idle for awhile.. can you guys check to see if it happens for you? after a days of driving or whatever.. driving home from work.. before shutting off the engine.. just sit in it for like.. maybe 5, 7 minutes and see if there is any popping noise, any feedback would be appericated. THanks

- Alex

This has been mentioned many times before. It's simply "heat" related expansion and contraction of various metal parts in and around your engine. Nothing to worry about. The insulation on this car is minimal so you hear more stuff happening.

i don't know about that. i have the same thing on my 02. after it's warm and i let it sit, it makes that expansion/contraction noise like everyone 4-5 seconds on the timer. there's no interval where it stops. it's like a consistent 'tink'.

insulation is for reducing sound inside the car. i hear this when i have the top down or when i'm outside. other Hondas and cars in general do not make this type of sound unless the car is cooling down. why would the metal continually expand and contract? that kind of cyclic stress would weaken whatever is expanding and contracting as well.

did you find out anything???

i get these popping/snapping noises while at idle as well. I really notice it while in the bank drive through where the sounds have something to bounce off of.

this is normal???

Yeah I also get those. My friend actually pointed that out to me last night. I just assumed that it was the metal on the exhaust expanding and contracting like everyone else.

If there is more to it, please let me know.

It's nothing more than the exhaust ticking....
