Unhappy Potential Tranny Problems?

This is something I noticed when driving my car lately.
I keep my car around 4500 rpm (4th gear) and let it drop (let/ease off the gas) I hear the engine winding down and thats alright with me, but I hear a 2nd noise comming from further in center console (possibly tranny?). Its a higher pitch... dont know exactly how to describe this sound; I'm not sure if this is normal. Maybe you guys can try this out on your car too? If any of you know what this could be, could you let me know? Thanks!

I will look into the fluids but I'm not sure. I bought this car recently I'm thinking of doing a complete fluid switch out this weekend (maybe even engine oil but it was just dealered and oil changed by pervious owner). Any other input or ideas you guys have please let me know. Thanks!

Could be TSB 054, have a dealer check it out.

I think I have the same problem on my03. I can hear it after I let off the gas and it's around 4000 rpm or so. At first I thought it was a suspension component rubbing, but now I'm pretty sure it's coming from the tranny. It's not really loud, the radio has to be off to hear it.

Joe in STL: Yeah i think its the same problem. People have proposed its the TBS 054. Mine is probably slightly louder than your, I dont know how loud you listen to your radio but I can sometimes hear mine.. it just sounds ... well... out of the ordinary.

I think you guys have the typical "clutch deceleration buzz" that many of us have. I've had mine since day one and the car is now 4 years old. It's just a noise made by the clutch disc springs and has no negative affect on the performance of the car. If it really bothers you, you can try to get the dealer to do the TSB but most people who have this done have noted that the sound comes back very shortly afterwards. For me, it's just not worth it and it's no big deal.
However, if you indeed have a "whurring" sound, this may be a sign that your diff or tranny needs attention and a fluid change would be a good starting point. Sounds are very hard to convey on the net, so it's hard to tell you what you've really got.

I noticed a similar sound recently in my car, at around 4000 rpm, i found the problem was the A/c. I dunno why but when the A/C is on its makes a little high pitch noise from the area around the A/Ccontrols.

So what you're saying is that you can eliminate the sound when it happens by just turning the A/C off? If this is the case, you might want to check out the A/C compressor drive clutch. It may only seem like it's coming from your dash. Go out and see if you can hear from the engine bay by revving it from the throttle body. Can you rule out the HVAC fan motor?
