Default Press Size - Wheel Bearing / Hub

After receiving rather high quotes to press in a bearing and hub ($80 per side) I am going to purchase a press from HF - what size of press do I need for this? I feel like for $160 I could ship them somewhere reputable rather than Napa down the street?

20 ton is perfect.

The breakaway force of the bearing from the knuckle is around 14-17 tons. The other forces are likely under 10 ton.

The key to successful pressing is having various collars and round dies to press and support things.

I made do with a 12 ton press without problem.

i used a 12 ton with success. I used a torch to heat the hub to help improve breakaway and removal.

I left the bearings in the freezer over night and used a torch to warm the hub prior to insertion. I used a bit of bearing grease to ease it in.

A 10 ton press can do the job. 20 is better, even better the one with a strain gauge on top but that's just getting fancy. $80 to press the bearing and hub into the knuckle? That's rape man that's a 10 minute job if that, per side. You're much better off getting a press, at least then you can use the press for other things like bushings, or other transmission or diff rebuild if you ever need it and are feeling saucy.

The chances of me using the press again are relatively slim and apparently a lot of the shops around here charge a minimum of an hour's labor

Given the number of bearings that go out on these I am surprised a vendor hasn't set up a core service...flat rate shipping would keep the cost down

Where might one find "various collars and round dies"?
