Default Previous owner used 89 octane, switch to 91?

When I picked up my car I asked him what he was using. He said he always used the mid-level octane and had good results (no pinging, I guess). Everything I have read hear indicates that hign octane is pretty essential. Are there any issues with changing now?

no issues... you should change over as soon as you get a chance.

Thanks guys - I'll make the change today when I fill up. BTW, I thought it was interesting to note that the cost savings of using 89 vs 91 for the 2 years and 22k mi that the previous owner put on the car was around $100. Hardly worth it IMHO.

I've noticed about a 5-10% improvement in fuel economy with 91 or 93 octane over "regular". I don't think that completely makes up for the increased cost, but from a tree-huggers standpoint, fewer pounds of CO2 in the air.

The prior owner of the S2000 should've been shot for using crap gas. The thought of it brings agony. Seriously, why would you use 89 octane in the S2000? Talk about being cheap. Sheesh.

Octane booster isnt good for the car. It fouls the spark plugs. A better solution would be a mixture of race gas and "premium" gas. Or Toluene/Xylene + lubrication along with gas.
