Default price for a moderate engine rebuild....

hey team- i have a few knocks and pings on the car (ap1 with 48K) and I am the nervous type so i automatically like an idiot start lookign at other cars- first on the list was an 05 s2k... but then i race an 93-95 rx-7. and realize that our cars are heading down the same road- and classic. so now i am dead set on keeping my car- against the wishes of my wife- and am tossing around getting my motor rebuilt. nothing crazy like f.i. or anything, but performance oriented (stronger springs, rods, etc.) any rough estimates? anybody done this? i know it sounds stupid to rebuild at this mileage but to be honest not really feasible to buy a new car but i bought it at 44k and after owning it for a while i am seeing it was treated like shit before i had it- i want to start on a new slate but not a new car.

Thanks!

Adrian

I cant give you a guesstimate on how much a engine rebuild would be but you may wanna contact Laskey racing, Inlinepro, or other builders whom people may reccomend for prices and rebuild suggestions. Are you positive that you need a full engine rebuild? This is something that you may want to have looked at by a professional before spending all that money.

Laskey will build one for 3500 +/- shipped. You supplied the block and head. They will supply the sleaves, pistons, rings, rods, valves, springs, ect.

What is wrong with the motor you have? If the main bearing were your issue and the crank is damaged, you can't rebuild it without replacing the crank. If just the lower part of the motor is damaged, an OEM short block is about 2500.

no the car is running strong- but you can definetely hear a knock in the motor. the big thing was is i know the car was abused before I had it- so while the motor is knocking anyways and to catch it before i do throw a rod or something- i figure it would just be easier to rebuild it so when it starts making noises... i know I did it

You can buy a new shortblock from Honda for $2100 US. That's the online price and you then pay shipping.
