Default Private Messages: a request from RR

People:

I try to answer every PM sent me - but I have noticed a trend that has gotten a bit out of hand.

People are writing and saying that "I have read all your posts on lubrication and thank you...", but then they ask for specific recommendations for THEIR CARS!

First, if they have indeed read "all my posts", they would not need a private consultation, would they? So I believe it is intellectually dishonest. Xviper was kind enough to help me organize the posts into the Oil Forum, so it should not be an issue of information availability, or "I searched but did not find an answer...".

Now, if they have read them, but do not understand something, that is a different matter. Ignorance is to be helped - laziness is not. But kiddies - I can tell one from the other - it is insulting to think that I cannot.

On the other hand, if you would like to send a $1500 annual retainer, and then ask questions not to exceed my standard consulting rate of $250/hr (6 hours), then PM me for my address.

So, please, understand that if you PM me, and do not receive an answer, it is for the reasons i have stated, and not because I am lazy, stuck up, or unsympathetic. It should be obvious that that is not the case.

Thank you.

RR.

BUT, BUT, BUT .................................
My car is special. Your information pertains to all other S2000's, surely NOT mine! I need that extra bit of protection only my car deserves, so please don't lump mine in with all the others.
BTW, I have an '00 S2000. What kind of motor oil should I use? And I've read all your posts about each kind of oil, etc, but what do you think is BEST for my car? Oh, I've also read what you've said about additives, but since my car is so special, do you think it would be better to add TWO bottles? In case it makes a difference, it's Silverstone in color.

RR, your posts are priceless. I think there are a few people (include myself in that minority) that have a somewhat non-technical background, and we find it difficult to differentiate between all the quality lubricants available and the discerning comments you write.
I am usually inclined to try a product that seems like it may suit my needs on 'paper'. I wonder if certain choices I make may be be obviously illogical to someone with your knowledge and background. Sometimes a confirmation from a more authoritative voice is a pre-emptively precautious method of making a decision. It is not that we are lazy (some not all), though we may be ignorant, but rather that we are just cautious not to make a precarious decision on such a fundamentally vital component of our beloved machines.

Regards,

Asura

Above all, I truely appreciate your steadfast refusal to lazily replace your deft manipulation of the english language with effortless pictures.

well RR, I hate to say this but I never get PMs asking for further elucidation, specific recommendations, input, advice, etc. on ANY topic that I've posted about...

so obviously something must be lacking from your posts.

food for thought.

Oh, I forgot to add that my car is as special as xviper's. Probably more so since it is well-known that Sebring with the all Red interior is the sexiest and therefore 'high-maintenance' ...but worth it

Here, here!!!

...but only if they're sporting my lighted windscreen mod

RR, I sometimes feel as if I'm in the same boat...I get quite a few PMs throughout the week. Some questions are highly intelligent and lucid, others are positively inane. I do my best to answer them all, but my answers are somewhat terse when it's obvious the person has done zero homework for themselves. I can appreciate questions from people ignorant of electronics, and I'm glad to help them with fairly long and drawn out explanations...I have no respect for the questions from people who go around their elbow to get to their a$$, only to find out they forgot why they went there in the first place.

More than once I've considered adding pages to my personal website explaining the more mundane details that get asked time and time again (such as "How do I calculate the value of a resistor for 2 blue LEDs?"). Other times, the information is a bit more involved (such as why there's no need for $15,000 speaker cable), but the mood always passes me by once I find some other project that needs working on. Someday...maybe...

Oh, I have a good one ...............................
Ever get sent a PM asking a bunch of questions, only to find out weeks or months later via PM tracking that your answer was NEVER read? So much for those questions being important, huh?
