Probable Clutch Slipping?
I'm pretty sure my clutch is toast, but I need to make sure before I spend the money on a new clutch (going stage 2 because of future SC). The symptoms are typical clutch slippage at high rpm and at low rpm in a higher gear as well as weird squishy and vague pedal feel but what confuses me is that it only starts when the car is warmed up after 20+ miles of driving. That just seems weird to me because for some reason I thought it was the other way around (starts slipping when cold and gets better when warm). Like I said I'm pretty sure I'll need a new clutch but I want to check with you s2000 gurus in case it's something stupid like clutch fluid or a master cylinder.
The hotter a worn clutch disc gets, the more it slips. You should go ahead and do a clutch fluid change. After that check the length of the actuator rod at the pedal to assure proper engagement (disengagement). If your troubles persist, then start to think about new clutch.
Thanks for the reply. Would changing the fluid help prevent the clutch from slipping? If so I'll give it a shot. I'll check the pedal also. I adjusted it up not too long ago using the DIY on this forum to help cure my 2nd gear grind (it did). Not sure if this would affect clutch slippage.
If clutch master cylinder hydraulic fluid is bad (or air in lines or worn master or slave cylinder) the problem would be the opposite, can't fully disengage the clutch (difficulty shifting, especially into reverse or first from a stop).
If you have clutch slipping symptoms (rpm's without forward motion, especially in taller gears up a hill), then either you have a worn clutch, or your clutch master cylinder adjustment rod is pushing in too far so that the clutch never fully engages. Since its so easy to try, adjust the rod a little shorter, so that you are sure you have at least some free play before clutch pedal starts pushing in master cylinder, and see if you still have slippage.

The part where you get symptoms AFTER the car warms up makes me want to recommend:

Also, change the clutch fluid (and brake fluid while you're at it). Any improvement?

. You want to ensure there is no pressure on the CMC piston while at rest, however you want to eliminate play in the system as close to 0% as possible.
