Default Problem after tranny and clutch swap

Here's the scenario.

I bought a 2002 tranny from a local who totaled his car in a hydroplane accident. Installed the tranny along with his exedy clutch set up. After installation of these items, the car would have such a hard time engaging from a roll. If i put it into first or reverse, it would inch forward but as soon as i let the clutch out further, there is a loud whining noise coming from under the car. Once the car does start moving though, it shifts just fine. I tried starting in second and same problem.

After the install we noticed the clutch lost ALL pressure. We figured it was clutch slave cylinder problem. Turns out the slave was leaking and we fixed that. the clutch pedal now has pressure.

So to summarize.
New tranny and clutch installed. After installation, slave cylinder problem. Fixed problem and regained pressure to clutch. Starting out in any gear would result in hesitation and loud whining noise. After car starts rolling, shifting to any gear is not a problem. Thanks.

I would also like to add that the clutch pedal now is very short, maybe half as high as it used to be. Is this normal with the exedy clutch set up???

Sounds like you're not getting full throw on the pedal so, the PP isn't getting pressed down far enough. I'd still be looking at the master and slave cylinder. Assuming everything's correct there, you may have to look into adjusting the clutch pedal rod so, the slave sticks out further. Be careful you don't squirt the guts of the slave cylinder out by adjusting it too far.

Did you install the throwout bearing behind the pressure plate or on top of it?

Too late for that. We basically took the slave cylinder apart and did a quick rebuild. The clutch pedal does seem a bit shorter than stock, however, im not sure if thats the natural characteristic of the exedy clutch.

It's a pull style clutch that needs to have the thowout bearing installed behind the pressure plate spring.

From the diagram above, i am sure that he installed the TO bearing behind the PP.

Since the slave cylinder gave us problems after the install, im thinking about getting a new one from autozone. What do you think about that? But if EK9 is right about the PP not being pushed down enough, would it still go into gears?

Are partially engaged clutch can still let you change gears, although grinding usually occurs.

Pedal height: you have air in the clutch, plain and simple. It sholud be gravity bled, while unbolted from the car.

Whirring noise: This is normal for the Exedy (hyper single).
