Default Problems with aftermarket intakes

I have a AP1 s2k with 110k , I put on a k&n short ram intake like 2 months ago and I really feels there is a power gain from it and I am very happy with it. 2 weeks after, all the power gain from the intake was gone and drive even worst then stock. The rpm low end pick up very slow and I feel no torque at all. So I put on the Factory air box again and I runs fine again. Now I just purchase a brand new K&N FIPK and the same things happen. It feels good for the first week and then lost all the power again.
I want to know if any one has the same problems or any solution for it? Is that be somethings related to the ecu self-learning of the A/F ratio?

usually when you install any aftermarket part youll feel a gain in the beginning. once your ecu relearns it'll pretty much starts to feel like stock again.

i think the only way you can keep the power gains you felt is to get a ems of some sort.

Does it happens on all aftermarket intakes and all s2000 years? I have a VAFC, will that work? Any shop recommended to do the tuning? Thank you

^^ this... from my experience I can tell you the first mod to a car should be a Nice programmable computer...

What I think is... doesn't matter what mod you do to your car other than exhaust.. the computer still the same... it gonna keep sending the same signals...

The computer doesn't relearn and turn the power down. You're just getting used to it. Also a short ram intake is going to suffer from heat soak especially when it's hot outside. This is most likely why it feels sluggish down low.

For reference my AP2 made 223whp with a k&n intake, test pipe & single exhaust.

^ this. 150%.

Summer is evil. And as much as everyone claims that the K&N 'seals' to the hood; It does not. Period.

My advice. Get creative or deal with it. That's what I did and I have completely eliminated heat soak; and I am in Florida. Perhaps the worst place on earth for cars (imo).

I did a reset today and the power comes back. So it is the computer then. Any shop suggestion to do the tuning?

Dude, It's placebo. An Intake is gonna add maybe 5hp. It's all in your head.

KN does seal against the hood. If you shin-etsu the rubber sealing strip you'll see it transferred to the insulation mat on the hood.
