The trans did last 13 years, and 160k, Don't feel to bad. I would drive it until the car won't move anymore.

that's my plan. Well, actually my plan is to let my son have it as his first car in about 15 months, but will probably have to buy a tranny by then.

Anybody have a tranny they wanna get rid of

Hey,

I got a problem with an Accord too. The thing has a very low idle and dies sometimes. Pulling up the a stop sign, you have to rev it so the engine won't die. It has 120K miles on a '94 Accord. Plugs and distributor and wires have been changed. What else can it be?

Clean the Idle air control motor, Remove the idle screw in the throttle body, clean the screw and the port in the throttle body. Reassemble, reset PCM, reset idle speed. Make sure you don't have an air pocket in the cooling system, an air pocket in the IAC or fast idle valve (I'm not positive the 94 has a fast idle valve, the 90 does) )can cause erratic idle speed. Take the radiator cap off, crack the bleed screw on the thermostat housing, fill with coolant untill coolant is streaming out of the bleed screw.

Slow,

Thanks for the reply. The symptoms occur when stopping the car abruptly. It does not happen on slow steady stops. Do you still think this is the idle air control motor?

90% Of the idle problems I see are fixed by cleaning the IAC/idle port. If the IAC is restricted/sticking and you come to a quick stop, the PCM can't set the idle speed fast enough.

Well, it didn't last long...pulled up to a stop light tonight and step on da gas but no go. after shutting if off for a few minutes, it would pull but only about a block. Smell of burnt tranny fluid and clutches in the air.

Now I'm in desperate need of a tranny, and cheap too. spent too much $$ on Xmas and don't wanna have to drive my S too long in this chitty weather. Don't have the right tires for it. waaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

sounds like your torque convertor probably crapped out(therefore its slipping), try a junkyard for a tranny.

Most likely, the clutches in the trans are just worn and not able to transfer the power through the mainshaft to the countershaft. It's quite rare for a convertor to cause a slipping trans. I have seen quite a few 90-92 Accords that will drive fine when cold, then when they warm up what is left of the clutch pack material blocks the pump inlet and the trans stops transfering any power to the ground. Just remember that a junkyard trans is in a junkyard for a reason, The whole you get what you pay for, cheap guy pays the most, Etc. Etc.

I agree with you Slow. However, I have already invested too much $$ into this car to put another $1000 into a rebuilt or new tranny. I have found a place in Chicago that has used trannys for $315. with warranty. If this car lasts another 40k miles I'll be happy. I'm not expecting this thing to last forever but I'm also not willing to have a $5000 beater either. Thanks for everything. Hopefully, I'll have this heap up and going again within a week or so, so I can park the S again.
