Default Procedure for clutch and diff fluid change?

I searched and the HOW TO for the diff has dead links. I couldn't find one for the clutch. Just looking for photos and the procedure.

Thanks!

Clutch fluid change.

1. get a syringe- I prefer medical grade stuff as it has a better seal than a kitchen baster- mine is about 5 ml.
2. suck out the old clutch fluid.
3. clean the clutch fluid reservoir.
4. refill with DOT4 brake fluid.
5. drive around as usual and a month later, repeat steps 1 to 4.

done and done.

ps- if you're really pedantic you can
1. do steps 1-4,
2. lift the car securely, then get under connecting a hose to the clutch slave at the transmission,
3. open the clutch slave and let the fluid dribble out- in less than 30 seconds it will be pretty well drained so have someone above tell keep an eye so it doesn't go dry.
4. close the slave cyl.
5. refill with DOT4.

Slowcrash's super duper fantastic clutch fluid replacement technique:

I use an empty and dry spray bottle, take off the sprayer dip one end in the clutch master reservoir and spray the brake fluid into the bottle. Use something to cover your fenders just in case of spills, and wipe off immediately, brake fluid does nasty stuff to paint. Use a towel or rag to clean the reservoir, fill with fresh fluid replace cap, and pump the clutch pedal 100x with the car off. Then do the procedure again. Do it once a month if you like overkill like moi, or once an oil change if you feel like being reasonable.

For the diff, its same as any other car.

Always remove fill plug first, so in case its frozen, you don't drain with no way to refill.

Remove fill plug

Remove drain plug

Once fluid drained, replace plug. Consider replacing washer.

Add fluid until it starts to dribble out the fill hole. Replace plug. Consider replacing washer.

Note, fill washer and drain washer are made from different metals (copper vs aluminum). Try not to mix them up.

I save my used-up shampoo-bottle and soap-bottle dispensers for draining master-cylinders (cleaned thoroughly of soap/shampoo of course). Just pump them old master-cylinder fluids into an empty plastic water bottle with them dispensers.

Billman had a good tip for the diff: get another drain plug with the magnet and use that for the fill hole plug. One wrench for everything and you have another magnet.

How does one use a wrench on the drain plug? How does one use a socket on the fill?

With dexterity! I use a standard crescent wrench/crows foot and the socket. What ever fits for me at the time. The point is it is all the same size and you get another magnet. You won't need a copper gasket either.
