pulling code
Tried searching but couldnt find anything about pulling a code with the engine on, and i dont mean with an ODB reader, as im trying to get my ABS code. I didnt think it would be a problem, but just want to make sure. The damn ABS light comes on intermittently and it always decides to do it when i want to run my a/c. for some reason when it comes on my a/c and fan turn off. So i want to try and catch it in the act of it coming on.
The error codes are stored in memory. You can use a paper clip to make a jumper between pin 9 to pin 4 on the OBDII port and watch the SRS flashes to get the codes. If you aren't comfortable with that, Honda has a reader that can pull the ABS codes that most generic OBDII readers won't.
i have an obd reader already, and would prefer not to purchase another one. and as for the storing of the codes, last time i tried to pull the abs code that keeps popping up, i got no codes, and i believe its because it usually turns off by the time i pull into the garage/turn the car off.. thats why i was questioning about trying to pull the code while the actual car is on so i can catch the code while the abs light is actually on.
Yeah...generic OBD readers usually won't work on the ABS codes. You would have to go to Honda...I doubt they would sell you their reader, but they would charge a fee to pull the ABS codes for you.
