Default question of ap2's timing chain

hi guys, i just wondering that do I really need to find a shop to check my timing chain? cuz i saw a relatively recent episode of fifth gear said that s2k's potential weaken spot would be the timing chain.

my car currently has around 35k miles, it's a 06 s2k

Thanks

The weak spot is not the timing chain. It is the tensioner that has been known to have issues. But a failing tensioner will be very evident. With only 35K miles I can assure you your chain itself is perfectly fine and as long as you don't have any loud/abnormal ticking/clacking your tensioner is more than fine as well.

Timing chain is strong and easily last life of engine. Timing Chain TENSIONER on the other hand is prone to wearing out after you rack up some miles, and factory replacement won't last long due to a design defect.

Fortunately the worlds foremost S2000 expert mechanic has a modified version that has proven to last. Its simply the factory vefsion with one piece modified. So when you need a new tensioner you get it from him. His name is Billman250, and you can find him on this site.

You'll know when your tensioner needs to be replaced when it start making a ticking noise. It will just get worse and worse until you replace it.

Fortunately its an easy 15 min DIY swap. So don't worry about it until you hear it ticking. Meanwhile, find the faq thread for new owners. Losts of good info there.

Billman, should I have any issues with your TCT gen4 from last year? You installed mine at RTD 2013.

thanks again and see you in 5 weeks.
