Default Question on Honda Synthetic Oil

I have heard and have be told that honda synthetic oil is made by mobil, but is it the same properties as in Mobile Synthetic 1? Can you mix the two together?

A big thanks for people who answer my questions.

I have heard that not good to mix brands of Synthetic oil even with same grade. Just pick one brand and go with it. I'm sticking with mobile 1.

I don't think Honda sells any synthetic oil. If you are referring to the break-in oil, it is definitely NOT synthetic. Synthetic shouldn't be used before 7500 miles anyway. If you need to top off your oil, and you still have the factory fill, just get some Mobil 0 Drive Clean 10W-30. I used this until I made the switch to Mobil 1 10W-30. I figured the 2 Mobil oils would be most compatible with each other.

Which oil is "this"? The car definitely does not come from the factory with synthetic oil. If you read your owners manual, it says that synthetic oil should not be used until after 7500 miles. It says that synthetic will prevent the engine from breaking in properly.

sorry, I missed typed that and up.......I ment are you sure there is no Honda synthetic oil.....

I did find out that there is only a honda oil and a honda syntec type oil. My car has 11k on it...Here is the problem, I was at the dealer (I hate dealers, I know they are stupid, I go to them because of a long story with warrenty issues and I am covering my butt) Anyway....I use to have a friend at the dealer I go to, but he left them. Now I went to the guy who took his place and well pure idiot, I think I told him 500 times that I wanted Mobile 1 synthetic in the engine. He just said "yes, and I didn't see him write notes" well after I got the oil changed, I asked him again and he did not sound sure of himself, so I said I want the mechanic to tell me what oil he put in....it was the honda syntec oil....

I now just talked to the service manager and he is replacing the oil with what I wanted.

Honda CANNOT have "syntec" oil as this is a registered trade mark of Castrol. Honda, as far as I know does NOT market a synthetic oil. It used to be that "Mobil" was printed on the bottles of Honda oil. "Mobil" is NOT "Mobil 1".
If you want synthetic oil in your car, you'll need to buy it and take it to them to put in or make a request for your dealer to buy it for you outside of their dealership.

I did not see any synth oil last time I visited my Honda dealer, Roku.

That's not conclusive, but I agree with the others here. If you're ready to go synth, buy it yourself and either let the dealer put it in for you or do it yourself.

I'm not sure if sticking to one brand or not is important anymore. Things've changed a bit over the years. It's probably still good advice, though, not to go back and forth between synth and "dino" oil (even though that's been debated too).

Good luck.

A little off topic, but for the people that do their own oil changes, where do you go with the old oil?
