When installing exhaust systems, always "temporarily" bolt stuff in place, do a final check and alignment, THEN do the final torquing of all bolts. It's a lot easier to install and align if everything is loose.

So your saying bolt the two together but only tight enough so that I can still adjust it after installing it on the hangers etc...?

Nope. Since all the pieces will start out loosely connected to each other anyway, it really doesn't matter. Do what is most convenient for you. Personally, I'd hang them up in small pieces since this is easier to work with than trying to get one big piece up at once. Hand tighten everything, move back, have a good look, make any adjustments necessary, then lock it all down.

Don't forget to spray all your old bolts with Liquid Wrench (or WD-40) and the rubber hangers with Silicone spray. Those 3 cat bolts, in particular will need an extra shot and a few minutes to work in. Don't be surprised to hear a lot of gawd awful squeaking when you turn them things, although you may be lucky. If they squeak real bad, turn a bit, spray a bit more, turn a bit more. You don't want to have a busted bolt with your car hanging in the air and no spare to put in.

Before is fine. If they were really hard to get off, then do it again after so they don't cross thread going back on.
