Default Quick Question - Clutch Engagement AP1

Hi everyone,

Since I am new to these forums, I should probably give a brief introduction before I dive into the question. I purchased my frist (brand new) s2000 back in 2005 and still have it to this date. I have alway lusted over getting an AP1, however. The time had finally come and I purchased a used 2002 s2000 to add to the family (just yesterday). The car appears to be in excellent shape, but after driving it around today I did note one "issue" with it and was uncertain if it was related to the AP1 gearing or if it had to do with this car in particular.

When I hit the clutch "engagement point" (my apologies if this is not the correct terminology) for gear one or reverse, it does not move at all and requires a relatively good amount of throttle to get it moving on a flat surface. This is contrary to my AP2. It's not much of an issue aside from when it comes time to park, in particular parallel parking as it is difficult to reverse smoothly.

The car has 48k miles on it. Is it possible it may need a new clutch and pressure plate already?

I do not notice any stuttering or any other noises in association with clutch. There are no other issues in terms of shifting/grinding etc..

Thanks and I look forward to your suggestions/opinions.

(PS. I'll try to get some pics up later this week)

I would flush the clutch fluid and adjust the free play. If it still acts up then have it checked out if you don't know.

Pump out the clutch fluid from the clutch master cylinder and refill with Honda DOT3 brake fluid. Do it twice just to freshen up the system. it should go back to normal after a few clutch kicks.
