Default Quick Question on Header Install

I've searched, but not quite sure on this answer....

I'm getting a header done tomorrow, wondering if you guys that already put one on reinstalled the stock black heatshield. Is this a necessary piece? Will it be beneficial reinstalling this piece? Thanks!

not necessary, but it will help dissapate the heat a little bit...i would suggest you get one of those header wraps and wrap up the header so it wont get soo dam hot. make sure you dont touch the header wrap though, because it will make your body itch like crazy (fiber-glass material).

i was wondering the same thing... with an after market header you would want that thing so actually show more. but my headers are not jet coated so i opted to put the shield on.

I've had mine off for quite some time. The jet hot coating on my DC Sports SS header seems to work well containing some of the heat. Sometime this week, I'll get off my butt and put it back on. Right now, its on my things to do list, while the black shield sits on my dining table awaiting to be reinstalled. Its been off the car for well over 6 months now, no problems so far, but I'd like to put it back on for 'flow' and like chris noted - keeping the battery from melting, along with all the other cables.

I purchased the DC Sports header as well. I just received it back from Jet-Hot after getting it coated. I also have the J's Racing vented hood. So hopefully, all these steps will help keep the engine bay real cool.

Was just wondering if I should reinstall the black heatshield or not. I'm not sure it'll even make a difference, since I got a flow of cool air circulating because of the vented hood. Any opinions?
