I have searched for my issue, and not found one like it. My 00' AP1 will NOT turn on either of the rad fans in any situation. I have tried jumping the connector for the temp switch, which does nothing for either fan. The A/C works very well, but does not trigger the fan either. Every fuse is fine, I have checked and triple checked that all relays in the panel are functioning correctly.... I have also ran power to the fans and they work. I do not know where to look next. I let it warm up to 3 bars...then 4...then 5...then i get concerned and go for a drive to cool it down.

 

Check the wires for continuity? You should have very little resistance, if you have a lot there's your problem. Using a multimeter, turn the car off and set to ohms. Check the wire path to the radiator fans. I doubt it's the thermal fan switch.

 

Considering I am about ready to go to school to be an electrician.....I am ashamed that I didn't even think of that, I will have to do so.

 

wires going to the fans are fine. I am very confused as of where to look now.

To note what I've checked / changed:
1:relay under hood for both the AC / rad fan.
2:the 7.5 amp fuse under the dash
3:radiator thermo switch - has been bypassed
4:checked to make sure fans turn on
5:checked wires going into fans

Is there any other part of the fan systems I am missing? Is there a switch on the A/C system that engages them? I am more than willing to install a fan controller to make this work, but before I do that I want to attempt to find the cause first.

 

I'd try reverting the wiring back to stock. Maybe, you've done something to the continuity --- when you bypassed certain items.

 

I should have clarified, but it is all stock. when I bypassed the sensor it was only to eliminate that as the cause, afterwards it was plugged back in.

 

Grounding point loom wiring, on passenger side are all intact?

They do *appear* to be making good contact and they are reasonably clean, but to eliminate that I will clean and sand each one lightly and verify they are working correctly. I will post results soon

 

When doing the continuity check with the multimeter into the fan connections try to jiggle the wiring/harnesses/connectors to see if you lose continuity. Something could be loose or internally shorted. Just a thought.

 

Jump the temp switch again to make sure the fan should be running.
Then start measure the voltage at the fan connector then work your way back, relay, fuse and other connections points that might be accessible.
